3 Tips For A Smooth Moving Experience

Posted on

When it comes to how your actual moving day will go, a lot of it depends on how prepared you are before your movers arrive. Here are a few tips that will help ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Finish Packing The Day Before

Don't make the common mistake of thinking that you can have everything packed up and ready to go by leaving things to do on your actual moving day. When you are paying movers by the hour, any time that they spend waiting around for you to finish up is time that you are paying them to do nothing. Having everything packed and ready to go the day before your move will ensure that nobody is waiting on you to get to work.

Pack An Essentials Box

The last box that you pack and the first box that you open should be your essential box. This is the box of everything that you need for daily living. Think of it as if you were planning to go on a trip, and what you would need to take with you. This includes a change of clothes, toiletries, medications, phone chargers, and things of that nature.

Having an essentials box means that you do not have to scramble to find things once you are moved into your new home. You can go at your own pace since you'll have everything you need for your first night.

Disassemble Your Large Furniture

Another time consuming part of moving is getting your large furniture in a state where it can easily be moved out of your home. This means that you will need to disassemble the furniture in advance so that it can be packed up and loaded onto the moving truck. This could include taking apart a desk, entertainment center, bed frame, dining room table, and other large items.

One tip for disassembling furniture is to group all of those screws and bolts together and put them in a labeled plastic bag that zips closed. You can then put those bags in the same box so that they are all together. It helps make sure that you do not lose any parts, which can easily happen if they are taped to the side of an item that is being moved around.
